So my IT guy told me to switch my ISP to upgrade my VDSL to UFF, install WiFi and VoIP and I’m here like, WTF? FML.
Tech talk is a completely different language with the majority of it based around acronyms. It’s no wonder we’re constantly confused! You’ve created your new website, it looks amazing and then all of a sudden someone drops the SEO bomb. Wait. What?
What is SEO though?
Let’s start at the beginning. SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a strategy used to increase the amount of visitors to your website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page like Google. Because really, who scrolls past page 1 when they’re searching? Good SEO will ensure that your website is sitting right up the top of the first page, just below the paid ads, which is right where you want to be.
But, really?
Yes, really. Studies show that 93% of online experiences begin with a search engine. Further to that, 75% of users never scroll past the first page. So if you’re on page 3, you’re going to want to work on your SEO to get you on page 1.
How do I do it?
There are a number of ways that you can work on your SEO. Here are 5 of them to get you going
1.Read a SEO Blog
If you’re still with me, you’ve made the first step! SEO is very broad and you’ll want to ensure that you read at least one SEO blog to get going with an understanding. There are heaps of SEO beginners guides online that can help you getting started. Go for it!
2. Get an understanding of your target customers and online market
You may be killing it in the real world, just remember that online habits can be completely different. A prominent offline presence does not equate to a dominant online presence. Search out similar products or services that you offer online and see what the top websites are doing. Check out their Social Media and read their customer reviews – No doubt you’ll stumble across something new too.
3. Become a master of keywords
As I said before, the IT world speaks in a totally different language and it’s not just the IT world. Every industry has their own jargon and you need to know that your customers might not necessarily get it. Keyword research allows you to understand the keywords or phrases that your clients are searching so that you can use them in your SEO.
4. Blog baby!
You don’t have to do it every day. Scheduling regular blog posts that are relative to your target audience is the goal. You can do this by simply posting photos of a project or writing a few words about upcoming products. Easy!
5. Ask questions
